"Jeudi Gras" Preview Sale at the Mine! Start Mardi Gras fun early!

Urban Mining Homewares is hosting a triple-play mid-town event: our three-fold plan is to:

  1. Help KKFI, our neighbor and local public radio, raise operating funds by providing a venue for
  2. Ernest James Zydeco, a midtown band which recently released a fabulous new CD while we
  3. Treat our customers to an additional evening of early shopping adventure (while dancing and eating tasty treats!)

“Mardi Gras” is French for “Fat Tuesday” and Mardi Gras celebrations are all staged to allow for excessive partying before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (this year, February 10). “Jeudi Gras” is the Thursday before Mardis Gras, hence it’s “Fat Thursday.”

Our Preview Sale will be at the Mine, Thursday, February 4, 5:30 – 8:30 pm, 3924 Walnut St., in Westport, a mere 1 block east of 39th and Main St. Advance price admission is $5.00* or $7.50 at the door. All door proceeds benefit KKFI.

Ernest James Zydeco will perform 6:00- 8:00 pm; this three piece band plays traditional and original zydeco (closely related to Cajun music), featuring uptempo melodies squeezed out of the accordion, and the driving rhythms of the washboard (see www.myspace.com/ernestjames for more info). I dare you to keep your feet still when they’re playing!

And dress up for the festivities. Folks coming in Mardi Gras attire are eligible for fun prizes!

*advance admission prices are available two ways: commit name and phone number, number of admissions needed, and total amount due, via email,  to urbanminingkc@juno.com no later than February 1; or mail a check to Urban Mining Homewares, 3923 B Main St, KCMO 64111 (note: our “people door” is not our mailbox door so don’t mail it to Walnut St. address), checks should be made out to “KKFI”, and made for $5 x number of admissions; envelopes must be postmarked no later than February 1.
